GP Locum Work and Permanent Roles — Transparent Rates, No Runaround
Locum GP work is straightforward when the agency is honest about rates, upfront about what's available, and doesn't waste your time with roles that don't suit you. That's what we aim to be.
We place GPs in locum and permanent roles across general practices, primary care centres, and GP superclinics in metropolitan, regional, and rural Australia. If you're AHPRA-registered and interested, let's talk.
What locum work looks like with us
Day rates (2026 benchmarks)
$1,500 – $2,200/day
Metropolitan
$2,000 – $3,000/day
Regional
$3,000 – $4,000/day
Rural / Remote
Rates depend on location, session structure, duration of engagement, and the practice's billing model. We're transparent about the breakdown before you agree to anything.
Types of locum work we recruit for:
- Leave and holiday cover (1 day to several months)
- Parental leave coverage
- Ongoing locum arrangements (set sessions per week)
- Rural roster relief — FIFO or residential
- Gap cover during permanent GP recruitment
What we need from you:
- Current AHPRA medical registration (no conditions)
- Current medical indemnity (MDA National, MIPS, Avant, or equivalent)
- Availability to discuss roles in your preferred geography
- Two clinical referees contactable for reference
Looking for the right practice permanently?
If you're done with locum work and looking for the right permanent practice, or if you're interested in both and want to explore options, we can help.
We don't shortlist you for every role that comes in. We understand what kind of practice suits you — culture, patient demographic, billing mix, team size — and we match from there.
For GPs considering the move to a new permanent role: we handle the conversation with the practice on your behalf, facilitate the interview, and support you through the offer process. Your current employer doesn't know you're looking until you decide they should.
Regional and rural — why it's worth considering
Rural and remote general practice is where the clinical need is greatest and the day rates reflect it. A 4-day rural locum can return more than a full metropolitan week. For GPs who are open to travel, regional work offers both financial upside and variety that metro locum work rarely matches.
We maintain active relationships with practices in regional NSW, QLD, VIC, SA, and WA, and we brief you on the setting, patient profile, and accommodation arrangements before you commit.
International medical graduate?
If you're a GP from the UK, Ireland, India, South Africa, or Sri Lanka and you're considering an Australian career, we work with you before you arrive. We partner with a migration agent to help navigate the AHPRA pathway, AMC assessment (where required), and visa options — and we have placements ready for when registration comes through.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need to be available exclusively through your agency?
+No. We don't require exclusivity. If you're registered with other agencies, that's fine — we work to find you roles that suit you.
What happens to my indemnity during a locum placement?
+You need your own indemnity cover in place. For some roles, the practice may offer additional cover. We confirm the indemnity arrangements for each role before you commit.
Can I specify locations I won't travel to?
+Yes. When we speak, tell us your preferred geography and we'll only put forward roles that fit. No surprise location changes.
How long does it take to get my first locum placement?
+For metro areas, typically 1–3 weeks from registration, depending on your availability and the current role pipeline. For regional, often faster due to demand.
